This year at the Democratic National Convention, you might be surprised to hear chants of USA! USA! And, according to VP candidate Walz, it was about time they were “bringing the joy” back to politics.

I always wonder how anyone young could support Trump. A guy who doesn’t give a crap about our planet’s future, let alone theirs.

But biking through the college parties this Friday afternoon, red cups on grass, music pumping, bikini girls and bro boys, privilege overflowing, I’m reminded that many young people just enjoy feeling good!

And that’s something Democrats, for all our empathy, often don’t rejoice in. That’s the strength of Kamala and Tim, so far—joy. Chants of USA! Folks want to feel good, proud, strong–as much as we want to care, feel, be ethical.

To appeal to allll of the next generation, Harris/Walz has to do both: let them feel proud, and inspire them to care.
