Decolonizing Yoga: Why Postures are Only 5% of the Practice.
Tara Mitra is a longtime practitioner of over 22 years, a Certified Yoga Therapist, and a global teacher for teachers.
Rooted in the tradition of Śrī T. Krishnamacharya and T.K.V. Desikachar, she integrates yoga therapy, Ayurveda, prāṇāyāma, and Vedic chanting into a clear, intelligent approach to practice.
Tara spent many years living and studying in India, including extensive time in Mysore where she apprenticed in Ashtanga Yoga for five years and assisted hundreds of practitioners each month. Her teaching honors the depth of the Ashtanga lineage while also bringing forward the therapeutic, philosophical, and subtle aspects preserved in the Krishnamacharya tradition.
She is known for mentoring yoga teachers, offering advanced training in the Yoga Sūtra, chanting, and the inner architecture of practice. Tara teaches educators how to refine their voice, understand the mind, and transmit yoga with clarity, integrity, and compassion.
A trained chef and lifelong student of psychology and nutrition, Tara brings holistic insight to her work. She continues ongoing study in Ayurveda and Vedic chanting and teaches internationally. She lives in England with her husband, Dr. Rob and two rescue pups, Chintu & Mia.
