I am a Jew and I write, in that order. When I say that I write, people usually ask me, so what do you write about?. This question almost always leaves me benumbed. What can I say? I write, period. I mean write as a verb. For instance, if I said that I walk, you would not ask me, what do you walk about?. I don’t walk about anything, just as I do not write about anything. I walk in same sense that I breathe, eat, sleep, run, write and speak. Kafka said once that writing is like prayer. Praying is breathing, speaking; to breathe and to speak is to be alive (it goes without saying that the dead do not speak).
