Del Forte Denim: Anti-Sweatshop, Organic Cotton Looks Good, Feels Good!

I wore my Del Forte’s today and I’m in love with them enough to write about them.  When I got them, it was the first new pair of jeans that I had actually bought in years. All of my others I had found at second-hand shops. But then I read an article about what Del Forte was doing, and okay, saw them on an adorable 16 year old model at a fashion show in New York sponsored by Teens for Safe Cosmetics, and I had to get a pair.

The company was founded by designer Tierra Del Forte, who previously had worked at a traditional denim company and saw the environmental impact of denim production in China (think indigo running straight into rivers) along with the same questionable oversight of workers and practices at factories so far away. She decided to start her own company of clothes made with organic cotton denim, all produced in Los Angeles.

Del Forte Denim also partners with the Sustainable Cotton Project and will take back worn pairs of jeans to recycle them into a new style. Going even further, the company’s printed materials are on New Leaf paper and a carbon neutral company hosts their website.

What’s even more fun is that the jeans are well designed and look good! I have people ask me all of the time where they’re from because the style is so different. It’s the “Willow” a wide leg and high waist. (Don’t be afraid of the high rise, ladies!)

And yes, you do pay more for sustainably produced luxury denim. Mine I found for half off however by simply googling “Del Forte + sale.” Look I even found another deal on my exact pair.
