Happy Birthday, Paddington Bear!

There are a few books from my childhood I very clearly remember reading.  The first book I remember reading on my own was Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are, and my first “chapter book” was a story about a marmalade-eating bear from darkest Peru with a funny hat and a raincoat named Paddington.  I was hooked and read every Paddington book I could get my hands on, and I read A Bear Called Paddington until my copy of it fell apart.  It’s hard to believe that Paddington Bear is 50 years old, but today marks the 50th anniversary of the publishing of A Bear Called Paddington, so break out the marmalade, have some tea, and curl up with your favorite Paddington book!  Don’t have one?  Quick!  Get to your favorite independent bookseller and get yours!
