Techno? Oh, TechYes- Unsound Music Festival in NYC. ~ Claire Flannery

This coming Thursday is the beginning of Unsound Music Festival. Well, not quite the beginning-Unsound is Poland’s most adventurous music festival and its coming to New York City. From February 4th to the 14th Unsound will make its North American debut. It will be ten full days of awesome electronic music and visual art from some of the most prolific electronic artists from Eastern Europe and around the world. Unsound “has made a worldwide reputation by breaking new ground while dealing with vibrant electronic, experimental, independent, post-classical and club music scenes from around the world”, writes Issue Project Room, one of the many venues throughout Brooklyn in which Unsound artists will perform.

The festival is being put on by a number of cultural organizations from Eastern Europe and the US. (shoutout to Boulder based organization Communikey!“Eastern Promises” is a huge undertaking that brings techno and electronic artists from the former Soviet-Bloc to the U.S.  Unsound isn’t just an electronic music festival, but will also feature “a series of events dedicated to and inspired by Andy Warhol” via the Andy Warhol Program. Artists will spin tracks in sync with images and vintage footage of Warhol flims. . There will also be installations, a series of lectures, screenings and workshops. Its gonna be sick, and I’ll be attending (volunteering, in fact) the last three days of the festival. When I return from this experience (and it will surely be an experience), I’ll be sure to update this post with awesome photos and my insights into this ground-breaking festival.

Unsound NY has received a lot of press and here are some great articles to learn more:
