The failure to read good books both enfeebles the vision and strengthens our most fatal tendency — the belief that the here and now is all there is.” ~ Allan Bloom Closing of the American Mind
“If I paint a wild horse, you might not see the horse… but surely you will see the wildness!” ~ Pablo Picasso
“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight and no vision.” ~ Helen Keller

#42 of 108: Learn Viag-Vision
On October 5, 2012, Ramjeet Raghav became the world’s oldest father at 96 years old. His 52-year-old wife gave birth to their second child.
Says Ramjeet, “My neighbors are jealous and they keep asking me for my secret, but all I tell them is that it is God’s will. I think it’s very important for a husband and wife to have s-x regularly and when she asks I will go on all night, but for the sake of my child I’ve put our needs aside for now.”
I know what you must be thinking and I agree:
Gimme a V
Gimme an I
Gimme an A
Gimme a J
Gimme an E
Gimme an E
Gimme an A
What Does That Spell?
Viagra! (I know it doesn’t spell that but I wanted to throw you for a loop.)
Go Ramjeet! Go! Go! Go Big Daddy!
Ramjeet is one of millions of men around the world who take erectile dysfunction drugs to prolong their s-x life deep into old age.
But how was this wonder drug discovered? Was it a flaccid doctor working feverishly in the labs, trying to concoct something, anything, to please his young concubine?
Actually, it was a scientist named Ian Osterloh who was part of a team researching an enzyme called PDE5. They believed they might produce a drug to block PDE5 thereby expanding blood vessels to treat angina.
But…during research, male patients were reporting erections as a side effect.
And the race was on to develop the drug we now call Viagra.
Keep in mind, this drug was an unintended surprise.
The list of drugs what were unintended surprises goes on and on.
The one to watch now is Ibogaine, a powerful hallucinogen derived from an African plant that people take for profound exploration of other dimensions…a.k.a “to trip their balls off.”
But for years, Ibogaine had a side effect: it seems to cure hard core addiction.
Another unintended surprise…Instagram.
Far different from a drug like Viagra although certain to have incited some sort of erection in its founders upon its one billion dollar sale.
Instagram’s photo filter was just a peripheral part of its initial use as a mobile location check-in game. But then, the photo filter took off, and nobody cared about the game.
This begs you to look at your life differently.
We tend to see things straight on. Isn’t that what “vision” is all about?
We are taught to see with our eyes, or as Ramjeet might say, with our one eyed willie.
But we are equipped with other forms of vision that lie in the heart, gut, hands, and nose.
Vision is about sensing life, not just seeing it.
Vision is about what’s behind you, within you, beside you…not just what’s straight in front of you.
So take a moment today to ponder that what you are seeking in life might come as a surprise from a person or a place that is barely an afterthought.
Or as Ramjeet might say in summarizing the Tao…be hard, but be soft. “Practice not doing.”
