Outsmart the Smartest Man in the World.

“The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom.” ~ Isaac Asimov

“May you live every day of your life.” ~ Jonathan Swift

“I am so smart that sometimes I don’t understand a single word of what I am saying.” ~ Oscar Wilde

This is #41 of 108 Ways to Livin’ the Moment. Let’s take back our lives one beautiful, funny and delicious moment at a time!

Outsmart the Smartest Man in the World

Last night I had dinner with three people who are possibly the three most intelligent people I have ever met.

I must admit, sitting with these three supremely intelligent people, at first, made me feel like an inert, single celled amoeba.

If you know me, I like to talk about Blue Crush 2 and the Tao of ninth inning heroics in baseball, a strange assortment of conversation topics shared by only one or two other people in the world, both of whom spend their winter months in Nome and their summers in a cave.

But being exposed to this conversation, today I am more motivated, more alive, even more intelligent.

At dinner, we (or they) talked about food, apps, art, business, yoga, science, design, everything.

I learned that being intelligent is different than being smart. Smart means high IQ. It means being like Kim Ung-Yong in the photo above.

However, “intelligence” means being open to the complete life experience: the humanities and the sciences, the numbers and the colors.

Truly “intelligent” people use every bit of their brain, heart and soul as if they were warned before birth by some wild-child angel: “Bitches…use it or lose it..and that’s the last time I’m gonna tell ya!”

So if you, like me, close yourself off to certain parts of life simply because they are unfamiliar…then, as poet Dominic Owen said:

“Remember that every day contains a universe of potential; exhaust it. Live and love so immensely that when death comes there is nothing left for him to take.”
