Visiting West Virginia. ~ Alexa Mergen {Poem}

When my father was asleep and his wife,

as well as my husband and the half-feral cat, I slipped outside wrapped in a

borrowed blanket to the bare boards of the upper deck wanting

to face the dark country sky.

I watched stars arch their back bends; one charmed

me to doze. I awoke as mist filled the granite hollow that holds the angled house

and crept below, eyes widened to catch stray firefly glow.

In the morning, from where I sat at the breakfast table, I saw how

dew formed everywhere but where my warm body had lain.
