I want to write you the kind of love letter that makes strangers blush,
but there are not words.

Not in this language or any other

Only long soothing sighs as I melt into your embrace
Like the frozen lake thaws in the light of a spring sunrise

Only deep breaths as I inhale fresh, invigorating life
Like the fire expanding with the kiss of a winter breeze

Only two hearts beating together
Like the very first heartbeat of the very first living thing

Somehow all of the words in the world are lost
All of the beautiful words and the fierce words
All of the words shouted or sung
All of the words whispered behind closed doors
All of the words that roll off of the tongue and all of the unspoken words

All lost
like reason and time

If I could write you a love letter the words that don’t exist could not be read or heard
Not by any eyes or ears

They could only be felt
like warm blood flowing through pulsing veins

They could only be tasted
like mothers milk on newborn lips

They could only be understood
like the mystery of life itself

If I could write you a love letter with words that don’t exist

the pages would be full
like the pages of every holy book ever written

the pages would be heavy
like the weight of all the treasures in all the world

the pages would drip with passion and desire
like milk chocolate on a summer day

If the words existed I would write you a love letter and I would tell you that

you have my heart
like sunrise has the east

you have my soul
like sunset has the west

you have my every passionate kiss and every tender touch
like the night sky has every burning star

you have my today, my tomorrow and my ever after
like this body has my every breath

Oh how I want to write you the kind of love letter that makes strangers blush
but there are not words.
