“Don’t compromise yourself. You are all you’ve got.” ~ Janis Joplin
This girl was sent home today from a high school in Kentucky because she was breaking dress code. Female students are not allowed to show their collar bone because it’s distracting the male students.(imgur.com)
I get it. We want students to have respectable attire. But rules are tough to enforce: ’cause humans love to loophole rules and exploit them and break them. So, we think making them tighter will work. It doesn’t.
We don’t want Kentuckistan. We want freedom, and we want our children to learn. A middle way: not too tight, not too loose (as the Buddha put it) is the way to go.
It’s harder—we have to, you know, think—but it’s more fun.
Via Reddit, where the stories and jokes in the comments are right on: “They tried to ban girls from wearing anything that could reveal their bra strap for the same reason in my high school, so the girls just stopped wearing bras. Then they tried to make bras mandatory. Turns out a teacher asking a 16 year old if she’s wearing a bra or not could have some unfortunate legal ramifications.”
