Magazine Photoshopped Lena Dunham’s Cover Photo—Her Response.

Lena Dunham, you are my idol.

In the last couple of weeks her name has been on everyone’s lips.

Not only that the fifth season of the HBO’s super famous (and yes, very feminist) Girls series started last month, last week she published a powerful open letter for the pop singer Kesha, who is battling her producers.

Today, the director-writer-producer-actress hit the headlines again, after criticising the Spanish Tentaciones magazine for photoshopping her cover image. She posted this response to her 2.4 million Instagram followers:

Oh hello El Pais! I am genuinely honored to be on your cover and so happy you licensed a pic by @ruvenafanador, who always makes me feel gorgeous. BUT this is NOT what my body has ever looked like or will ever look like- the magazine has done more than the average photoshop. So if you’re into what I do, why not be honest with your readers? Much love, Lena.

Within 9 hours, the post had received over 37.5k likes.

Basically she’s asking for honesty. As she is stating: “But this is not what my body has ever looked like or will ever look like.”

Admitting that your body isn’t perfect is not easy. But she doesn’t seem to care. She has a bigger mission than gaining “wows” and likes for her looks on social media. She wants reality.

A little self-check: Take a look at your Facebook posts or Instagram photos: how many of them show the real you? Faults and all? I know that mine don’t. There’s lot to learn here.

So thumbs up for Lena. She did it again. May the rest of us follow.
