*Vedic Astrology, or Jyotish, is one of the oldest sciences on the planet and considered a relative of astronomy. It is an important and valuable part of the ancient Vedic texts. This complex, logic-based and also intuitive science has survived thousands of years in India’s Vedic tradition, and is still considered a highly valuable tool of guidance and life insight. It is not a religion, but rather a philosophical understanding of human and cosmic existence. In Sanskrit, jyoti means light. Essentially, the study of Jyotish is the study of light and how we interact with the cosmic light—within us and within the cosmos. Vedic astrology, or the sidereal approach to astrology, casts charts differently than Western, or tropical astrology. The meanings, implications and purpose of Jyotish is therefore different, as are the details used for prediction and the indications given below.
As sidereal Saturn shifts to Sagittarius and the constellation Mula or the majority of 2017, it brings dharmic themes to the surface.
During this chaotic cycle, many will hone and align with their highest purpose, while others will lose complete sight of their dreams and desires. Those who choose their dharma consciously will be required to face challenges and obstacles head on, helping to align with and clarify their path.
If dharma is our life path, our soul’s true purpose, then adharma means that which goes against our dharma.
What is Adharma?
Sometimes we lose our path, joy, passion and what lights us up. When we do not fully align with our soul’s purpose, or when we fall off the path, this is considered adharma. Anything that causes us to lose sight of our destiny, dreams, goals or vision can also be considered adharma.
The impact of adharma can be physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
These six signs are key reminders that we are stuck in adharmic patterns, cycles and behaviors.
1) Chaos, confusion, and uncertainty about our purpose and dharmic path. Especially if this dharmic confusion is systemic in our family and lineage.
2) Thought patterns that keep us stuck, misaligned, resistant or avoidant. Often rooted in the story of, “I can’t do it because…”
3) Behaviors and choices that sabotage alignment with our soul’s purpose. Toxic mental, emotional, physical or spiritual patterns that shadow our inner wisdom and truth.
4) Spiritual bypassing and avoiding challenges, hardships, struggle and pain. Watch for stories like: “It wasn’t meant to be” or “Everything happens for a reason.” These are often rooted in avoidant behavior.
5) Getting stuck in repeated cycles of loss, failure, challenge and hardship without clear transformation or change.
6) Lack of joy, pleasure, passion and enthusiasm for what we do and how we offer it to the world.
Many of these adharmic tendencies are given to us by our ancestors. It is actually part of our path to unravel the legacy of adharmic actions, choices and behaviors.
If we recognize any of these signs of adharma in our life, it’s time to be realistic about our path.
We will need new resources, consistent support and greater clarity to create change and transformation on a deep, lasting level. It is vital that we learn how to move beyond our “stuckness” and get targeted guidance for our journey, or the adharma will not change.
Clarifying and honing our dharmic path cannot (and should not) be done alone. It is a process of unfolding that requires consistent support, resources and guidance along the way.
What happens to our soul’s purpose when our voice isn’t heard, our gifts are never shared and our power is never fully activated?
This is adharma (that which is against dharma). It is the root cause of all suffering in this world. It is self-induced pain.
We are feeling the chaos of adharma because it is so alive right now, in the environment and society.
With this increased adharma, it is essential that we stay close to our body and its wisdom. This is where we will find our truth and inner knowing. Lean in, listen and cultivate a practice of asking your body to share its messages with you. This is essential for staying connected to your dharmic path and your highest purpose.
Don’t neglect your path. Don’t avoid your inner wisdom. Don’t negate your power, purpose and passion.
Offer your dharma to this world. Awaken it within you. Change, heal and transform, so that you can rise and shine. Step onto your dharmic path!
