“Don’t Call it a Comeback. I’ve Been Here for Years.” {Poem}

“Vinyl is the real deal. I’ve always felt like, until you buy the vinyl record, you don’t really own the album. And it’s not just me, or a little pet thing, or some kind of retro, romantic thing from the past. It is still alive.” ~ Jack White

.

This was inspired by my love for music and appreciation for the vinyl record. We all have a comeback patiently waiting inside.

~

Gently touch me.
Caress my smooth edges.
Slowly, remove my jacket
and pull me from the darkness.
I’ve been in here way too long.

With the first crack of light,
My shine reflects your loving smile.
You hold me with warm hands,
While I witness amusement in your eyes
Scanning my sleek form.

At one time, I was black as the night.
Today, I choose to reveal an assortment of colors.
There are no limits.
Slide me onto the table and
Position me to perfection.

Behold my mystery and wonder.
At one time, I was outdated.
Few chose to keep me,
But I have become a prize to many.
I’m making my comeback.

Old memories of me
May return you to the past,
Or together, we may be creating new ones.
All you have to do is
Drop it.

Lower the needle,
And let me feel the scratch
Against my flawless body.
Oh, a slight pain sparks me in motion,
Only to power my given sound.

I see your body sway,
Losing track of time.
My vibes place you in another realm,
Another space.
Be here in this moment.

Play me at 33,
that’s my speed.
Unless you want me a little faster?
I’m versatile to your desires
and the pace of your beat.

I have many songs
To be heard within my body.
Trace the circular lines and
Find my grooves.
Keep me on repeat all night long.

When our time is over,
Remove me from the table with kindness,
Savor my fresh glow
And slide me back into my jacket.
I am yours to keep.

There are others
Waiting patiently on the shelf.
May you beckon me once more
To spin so gracefully,
Again, and again, and again.
