Say Goodbye. {Poem}

I love(d) you.

But not enough for the two of us.
I believed that my love was enough
Until my well ran dry.

Until I asked you to participate,
To replenish.
Instead
You bled me dry,
Your appetite voracious.

I see now
I was nothing to you—
Wait,
No that’s wrong.
I was convenient.
I was willing to accept
Your passivity
All the while believing
That you would appreciate me.
That you would accept the love offered
And reciprocate.
That you would let me in.
You would
Let go and let me catch you.

But
I was never enough,
Not even for me.
Unable to sustain the two of us forever by myself
The foundation slipped away,
First by grains,
Then the landslide.

We ended up on separate shores.
I suppose
We were always meant to say goodbye.
