How to get a Picky Eater to Eat Carrots.

Carrots are a wonderfully nutritious vegetable to incorporate into your diet.

Packed with beta-carotene, vitamin C, vitamin K, antioxidants, and fiber, it’s no wonder carrots are such a popular healthy food. A lot of people like their slightly sweet taste, but there are also a lot of picky eaters out there who simply do not like them at all! Whether because of an aversion to the taste or the texture, many are missing out on this beneficial veggie.

So how do you get a picky eater to eat carrots?

Don’t limit yourself to the traditional methods of how carrots are typically eaten; get creative, and you may be surprised at how easily you can get this vegetable into a non-carrot eating person’s diet. Consider these options:

1. Add them to a smoothie.

A good way to sneak carrots into a healthy snack is to add them to a fruit smoothie. Blend in carrots with a banana, strawberries, and unsweetened almond milk, and create a sweet, delicious treat that any picky eater will love.

2. Grate them.

Sometimes just changing the consistency of a vegetable can make all the difference. Carrots can be hard to bite and chew through, but grating them can change the texture and make them better to eat. Add grated carrots to a salad, or make a healthy slaw with some shredded cabbage.

3. Mash them.

Carrots don’t need to be eaten raw, nor do they need to be eaten on their own if cooked. One way to use them in a delicious side dish is to boil or steam them along with other vegetables, like sweet potatoes and squash. Once soft, carrots can be mashed and mixed in together with other vegetables. With a little bit of olive oil, salt and pepper, all your picky eater will taste is a yummy, creamy mash!

Eating carrots doesn’t have to be limited to a traditional “peas and carrots” dish that may first come to mind. Cook them, boil them, roast them, grate them, blend them…keep experimenting, and you may be surprised how quickly a picky eater may learn to love them!
