A Letting Go Ritual to Release ourselves from Expectations & Disappointment.

Possibility is, and always will be, greater than we can imagine.

Possibility is truly infinite.

Which means possibility goes beyond our limited human perception.

What happens for most people is that things don’t always go the way they want them to.

We all have this experience every day—events going differently than we expected or hoped.

But perhaps the problem isn’t that things are going badly or wrong, but only that we had expectations about how things should go in the first place.

This has to do with the limited perspective of the mind. The mind can’t see all the gifts being offered to it. These gifts are often in the form of challenges.

By being disappointed by opportunities ending, or feeling frustrated when experiences are different than we expected, we shut down to all the unexpected options that are available to us on this magical journey we call a human life.

Ram Dass, spiritual teacher and author, explains, “It is important to expect nothing, to take every experience, including the negative ones, as merely steps on the path, and to proceed.”

Sometimes when we’re scared or confused about the direction our life is going, we shut our energy down out of fear of proceeding on our human journey. What if I get hurt again?, we might wonder. But when we close the door to unwanted experiences out of fear or pain, we often end up also missing out on joy and adventure.

Being afraid of present experiences ending and new experiences beginning is one of the best ways to keep our lives stuck in a rut.

You don’t know what the future holds. Nobody knows what the future holds. This is one of the uncomfortable realities of the human experience. But my observation is that if we can stay open in our minds, hearts, and energies, we can find ourselves experiencing opportunities that surpass the ones we could have imagined.

How to do this exactly, though?

We open to infinite possibility by not aligning with the resistance and fear that is often present in our bodies and minds, and instead use a simple affirmation to remind our energy to stay open.

Open and Available Healing Technique

Step #1

Find a quiet place and close your eyes. Notice your breath for a few rounds of inhalations and exhalations. Let your shoulders come down and feel your whole system settle into the moment.

Step #2

Visualize the space above your head. Imagine there is a large funnel of white light above your head. Picture the funnel with the narrow end pointing toward your head and the wide end open to space. Make this funnel as big and spacious and full of light as possible. If you see darkness, set the intention that all energies not serving you are clearing. See the darkness dissolving, and more light coming in.

Step #3

Set the intention to be open. TO do this, use the words, “I am open and available.” If fear comes up in your heart when these words are said, be compassionate and gentle with yourself. Stay with the process. State the words again: “I am open and available.”

Step #4

Now just notice what there is to notice. What is your energy, mind, body telling you? Keep breathing. Try not to draw any conclusions about this process. Set the intention that you’re open and available to everything going on in your consciousness.

Step #5

Let go of the entire process and notice your breath. Feel yourself heavy and grounded in the moment.

Step #6

Over the next week after doing this technique, notice if your perception to experiences has shifted at all, or if the opportunities arising are different than before.

Step #7

Whenever you feel scared or feel yourself closing to opportunity, try saying the words, “I am open and available,” and see how this shifts the way your energy feels in the moment.

This choice to be open to infinite possibility and not stay locked in the limited expectations of the mind is a process. Be patient—and keep going.

I know there are exceptional experiences waiting for you.
