The Narcissism Epidemic: a Psychologist’s Perspective on What it Is, Why it Happens & How to Identify It.

I’ll be honest.

I don’t always subscribe to this obsession with labelling others as “narcissists.”

People are complicated. Life is messy and painful, and all of us f*ck up along the way.

I’ve always firmly believed that anyone who hurts others must be in a world of pain themselves—even those who have abused, assaulted, insulted, or otherwise mistreated me.

But I do also believe in thoughtful conversations about human behavior.

Red Table Talk is a video series put on by the women of the Smith family (as in, Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith, and Adrienne Banfield-Norris).

In this episode, they discuss the “narcissism epidemic” with psychologist Dr. Ramani Durvasula.

This discussion of narcissistic behavior is more nuanced and enlightening than most commentary I’ve seen on narcissism:

The Narcissism Epidemic

Where do you fall on the narcissism scale? Renowned psychologist Dr. Ramani Durvasula sits down with Jada, Willow and Gammy for a revealing discussion around self-obsession, and explains how to both identify and manage the narcissists in your life.
