I wasn’t entirely sure why this video had so many views when I saw it in my Facebook feed today.

But then I watched it.

Feeling unloved is arguably one of the greatest sources of pain, dysfunction, and problems in human relationships. And the process of learning to feel loved or unloved starts in our earliest years.

This video is a lesson for parents in how we can show up for our children—and teach them the power of worthiness and connection and holding space.

But it’s also a lesson for us in a broader sense—of how we can be present for the pain of others, letting them feel and be and breathe.

This dad’s mindful, patient, willing efforts to sit with his child’s pain is a reminder of how to be a better parent, partner, child, sister, friend, brother. Really, it’s a reminder of how to be a better human.
