No, I do not want to Attend your Zoom Happy Hour.

I must admit something.

I’m Zoomed out.

Everything is on Zoom—my college courses, my lab meetings, personal therapy appointments, my speech sessions with children, psychiatry appointments, a writing workshop, and groups I’ve been invited to attend but don’t.

I think I am on Zoom at least 50 hours a week.

If you’re going to invite me to some Friday Happy Hour on Zoom, I’m sorry. I must say thank you, but no thank you.

I’ve made an appointment instead to crawl under my table with earplugs and not look at another screen for the next 12 Fridays.

If you want to get a hold of me, leave a message on my computer.

The extension is 11.

I’ll get back to you shortly.

If Zoom suddenly stopped working and we were all forced to just sit at home in silence for a day with ourselves, I think I’d be quite happy.

The world, on the other hand, may just fall apart. At least that’s what many think.

I thought COVID-19 would make us slow down a bit and embrace the present, but instead, it feels like most of us are learning to juggle three tasks at once, while making sure our cameras and microphones are not on while we use the restroom.

At the end of the day, I can’t help but shut off my computer and nap.

My voice is starting to sound like Faucci’s after so many activities that involve me talking for hours.

Maybe you’re excited to join a Zoom lunch, a Zoom meeting, or some Zoom class, but I’m not anymore.

I truly wish we could all just stop for one week and turn off our cameras.

It would be nice if we could use this time wisely and learn to embrace silence and the beauty within each one of us.

Instead, our planners seem fuller than ever, and my friends are working full-time while also homeschooling their children.

I wonder what would happen if the whole world decided to take one day off and sit in silence. What would that look like? What would we learn?

It appears that our earth is telling us that we need to slow down, and yet again, we don’t listen to her.

Instead, we work harder than ever to juggle what we juggled before, and more.

I don’t know about you, but I need a day off.

Heck…maybe a month.

Let’s all just sit down and take one big inhale.

Just one.

See how you feel.
