A Message for us all, from Martin Luther Bear Jr.

With inspiration from his brother from another mother from another species, Martin Luther King Jr., Martin Luther Bear Jr. has written down his dream on behalf of the entire animal kind.

The dream goes as follow:

We have a dream.

We have a dream that one day this global society will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all sentient beings have the rights of life and liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

We have a dream that one day neither of us will be raised to the destiny of ending up on the plate of any human being.

We have a dream that one day even the farms where so many of us grew up, places sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into oases of freedom and justice.

We have a dream that our children will one day live in a global society where they will not be judged by the taste of their flesh but by the content of their character.

We have a dream today.

We have a dream that one day in the countries of meat production, in the countries of slaughter, where we are on many a man’s lips as a commodity, fluffy, furred, feathered, and shelled beings will be able to join hands with their brothers and sisters with skin, dry scales, and gills in joint peace.

We have a dream today.

We have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of inter-animal kind shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.

This is our hope. This is the faith that we move on forward with. With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the restricted compassion of our global society into a beautiful symphony of an inter-animal brotherhood. With this faith, we will be able to work together, to wish together, to struggle together, to live in captivity together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.

This will be the day when all individuals will be able to gather around these words with a new meaning: “We love all animals. We believe in animal rights. Everybody who feels shall also have rights of her own life.”

And if our global society is to be a great one, this must become true. So let freedom ring from every place imaginable. Let compassion shine and spread.

Let freedom ring from what was earlier named meat farms.

Let freedom ring from what was earlier named dairy farms.

Let freedom ring from what was earlier named piggeries.

But not only that; let freedom ring from what we have known as zoos.

Let freedom ring from the buildings we used to call slaughterhouses.

Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill from every corner of the world. From every mountainside, let freedom ring.

And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all sentient beings can say with one voice: “Free at last! Free at last! The day has come, we are free at last!”

Join the dream. Distribute the dream.
