Miley Cyrus covers “Zombie” by The Cranberries & it’s Surprisingly Impressive.

I’m not a huge Miley Cyrus fan—although I will never not jam out to “Party in the U.S.A.”

But I am a fan of The Cranberries and have been since I was about 10 years old. There was always something hauntingly beautiful about lead singer Dolores O’Riordan’s voice, tone, and one-of-a-kind inflections.

She had one of those voices that once you heard you knew you’d never forget.

So I was skeptical when I heard that Miley Cyrus had covered “Zombie,” one of the group’s biggest and most well-known hits, at Hollywood’s famous Whiskey a Go-Go, for Save our Stages Fest—a virtual event set up to raise awareness about and money for some of our country’s most treasured and vulnerable music venues that are currently struggling to stay open.

Cyrus is no Dolores O’Riordan, but damn—this cover felt genuine and emotional and gave me chills. I was pleasantly surprised and 100 percent impressed.

Here are some of my favorite YouTube comments about her performance:

“Miley just brought me back to life.”

“She went from country to pop to hip hop to experimental drug music back to country and now to rock. What CAN’T she do???”

“I’m sure Dolores is looking down with pride.”

“I forgot how much I love this song and Miley killed it.”

“Day-umm!! As much I try to not like her she keeps coming up with killer stuff that just can’t be described as anything but total AWESOMENESS!!!”

“That was…unexpectedly good. The girl nailed it.”

“It’s rare when someone can perform a cover that outshines the original when the original is a classic itself. And live…Respect.”
