Denial—a poem about anxiety.
I don’t have anxiety,
I just worry all the time,
But if anyone asks, yes…
I’m completely fine
I don’t have anxiety
I just tend to overthink
I can stare at my walls for hours
Then when I realise, I feel my heart sink
I don’t have anxiety
I just like to know in advance,
Who, where, when, and how long for?
To give myself a fighting chance
I don’t have anxiety
I just sometimes forget to breathe,
And panicking in public
Is definitely my pet peeve
I don’t have anxiety
I just can’t always sit still,
And when it comes to motivation
I really can’t find the will
I don’t have anxiety
I just avoid people every now and again,
When it gets too much, sometimes,
I just want to be alone with a notebook and pen
I don’t have anxiety
I just worry all the time,
But if anyone asks, yes…
I’m completely fine!
