How to Find your Calm—Even in Quarantine.

My dear quarantine buddies,
I think about you often.

The endless hours in a minute,
and months in a day.
Trips from bed to fridge to bath to fridge to yard.
Where will the answer be?

Maybe in this next book…
shoot, it’s over too quickly.
Possibly it’s written in her smile,
but damn she sure is growing up fast.
Then, also, it could be hidden in his morning stretch,
slithering out of the bed,
shaking off the previous days’ solitude,
gearing up for another.

Sometimes, I thought I would find it on the internet,
connecting with multitudes of strangers
all looking for a different answer to the same question.
It sure wasn’t there.

I found it within:
in the quietness of my breath,
in the swiftness of my dinner creations,
in the sensation of putting new words to these ever-growing, uncharted emotions.

I found the home that I’ve been searching for,
the calm that I grasped for,
the love that I longed for.
It was hidden in a meadow
filled with golden wildflowers
and the setting sun,
nestled deep in my essence,
always there to return to
whenever I needed,
whenever I wanted.
