HERE SHE WAS

I woke up on the floor again this morning,

Remembered what it was had laid me low.

That hardwood wasn’t meant to be a mattress,

But ever since she left I’ve made it so.

[Chorus:]

Here she was; where’s she gone? Restless spirit movin’ on.

Ramblin’ Rose from dusk till dawn. Here she was; where’s she gone?

I curse the brutal honesty of sunrise

That filters through the curtains of my room

Illuminating bobby pin reminders

And pillowcases wearing her perfume.

[Repeat chorus.]

This door is one I’ll never want to open.

I just might let my hammer nail it shut;

She left the closet full of empty hangers,

That do a nasty number on my gut.

[Repeat chorus.]
