Whenever I hear “Fast Car,” I think of a sunny summer day when I was young.
It’s one of those fuzzy memories that’s more…feeling, than conscious memory. I see the sunshine, I can feel the breeze, and I feel the memory of listening to this song.
I think most of us have this…music that reminds of moments and experiences, songs that bring us right back to a specific place and space and moment in time, memories that are more feeling than anything else. Memories that leave us feeling something, even if we don’t remember every little detail of the experience.
While Tracy’s original is…well, classic. I love this version.
I’ve listened to it for years. Sometimes while walking, while hanging out in my tiny studio apartment in Boston, now…while sitting here and typing this.
I hope you enjoy this as much as I do, even if it’s not the original, even if it’s not Tracy.
And I hope it makes you think of some memories of your own.
