Cats: weird, but lovable little f*ckers. Welcome to my TED Talk. {Video}

From making biscuits, to clawing our furniture, and fitting in any type of container, sharing our homes with cats can be just really weird.

“To them, our homes are their jungles. But if this is the case, in our own cat’s eyes, who are we? Big dumb hairless cats competing for resources? Terribly stupid predators they’re able to outsmart every day? Or maybe, they think we’re the prey?”

This TED Talk by Tony Buffington, explains the science behind a few of their peccadilloes.

Also see the bonus video, “The history of the world according to cats.”

“In ancient times, wildcats were fierce carnivorous hunters. And unlike dogs, who have undergone centuries of selective breeding, modern cats are genetically very similar to ancient cats.” How did these solitary, fierce predators become our sofa sidekicks? Eva-Maria Geigl traces the domestication of the modern house cat.
