A Chocolatey Sex-Magic Recipe for Samhain.

“Suppose… the body is a God in its own right, a teacher, a mentor, a certified guide? Then what?… Are we strong enough to refute the party line and listen deep, listen true to the body as a powerful and holy being?” ~ Clarissa Pinkola Estes

Samhain is the perfect time for sultry celebrations.

The Celtic word itself means “summer’s end” and is the most sacred festival for witches, their “new year.”

It is the time of the dark moon season in the northern hemisphere, of working with our sensuality, sexuality, and intuition to access the divine within, indelibly hosted by the zodiac sign of Scorpio.

During Samhain (a feminine sabbat) sunset October 31 to sunset November 2, it is traditional to move between realms and access the mystical process of transformation—as the veil between worlds is thin. Sex magic is a not-so-unusual practice at this time, as a way to create through the mysteries of orgasm.

But first, our recipe.

I actually didn’t like chocolate (if you can believe it) until I was well into my late 30s. It was most likely a hormone shift that suddenly had me craving it. I once read that chocolate stimulates the same hormone release as when one connects to the Divine. Or maybe it’s the hit of sugar combined with the chocolate? Anyway, since watching the movie “Chocolat,” I’ve been a bit obsessed with melted chocolate.

Here’s a little bit of sipping chocolate that is so much better than anything from a powder. It should be smooth and creamy. When you make this recipe, check how you like the consistency before adding all the milk. Stop adding when it’s just right for you.

Hot Chocolate Cup

Ingredients

30g of the best chocolate you can find

2 tbsp water

200 ml, hot (not boiling) non-dairy milk*

A dash of good-quality vanilla, or a sprinkle of cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, nutmeg—what’s your pleasure?

Coconut whipping cream*

*If non-vegan, or doing dairy, use organic milk and whipping cream.

Process

Melt chocolate and water gently in a double boiler or in a pot. Make sure the heat is not going to scorch the chocolate if in a pot.

Whisk the milk in gradually, until you have a smooth consistency. Take your time and enjoy the process. Infuse some love. Imagine this chocolatey smoothness on your tongue…or elsewhere.

If you like your hot chocolate sweet, you can stir in a bit of your favorite natural sweetener here.

Pour into a small handle-less cup. Wrap your hands around it. Feel the warmth before you take your first sip. Anticipate. Take your time enjoying the aroma of whatever spice you’ve added.

The Sex Ritual

Last year I wrote up a sex ritual for July’s new moon—”Manifesting with Pleasure.” New Moon follows a couple of days after Samhain this year, so the ritual can be used for the whole first week of November…or anytime you want to manifest something, really.

“From tantra to witchcraft, sex magic is simply engaging with the energy raised during orgasm for the purpose of magnifying and manifesting the desired outcome.”

For Samhain’s sex ritual, you’ve guessed it, there’s going to be this chocolate cup thing, enjoyed in a variety of ways. Practice by yourself or with a partner(s).

Even though orgasm is going to be the moment to cast your spell, the main focus for as long as you can extend it, is pleasure.

>> Begin creating the mood at the beginning of the day, anticipating the evening’s shenanigans. Bring together all the elements that will focus this mood—music, scents, candles, clothing, accessories, perhaps a journal entry or a letter to your lover. Indulge in all the things.

>> Any kind of self-care and relaxation before sex-magic time is apropos: a sensual bath, body oils, a foot rub, meditation, social media break, time in the forest, an oracle card pull, dance, poetry reading.

>> Submit to your sacred pages what spoken-spell you wish to cast at the moment of orgasm.

>> Reconnect with some long-held kink or fantasy, and add it to your evening’s plan.

Exactly how you’ll deliciously incorporate that magical chocolate cup into your pleasure is up to you. Chocolate goes with anything, as you can imagine.

>> When you’re ready to surrender, and that’s exactly what orgasm is—surrender—allow it to roll over you as you speak or scream your intention. If you’re shy about it, you can think it, but out loud is always more powerful magic. At orgasm, our heart is open, our mind dis-engaged. It’s spell-casting at its best.

Stay in the moment. Notice how your body processes the release. Let the warmth of your desire spread through every cell.

This may be the beginning of a new Samhain tradition, and your favorite way to manifest just about anything. It’s empowering and brings us to closer relationship with our body and the ability to create pleasurably, which is really the domain of the goddess.

Blessed Samhain, witches!

Tell me, what are you manifesting for the next Pagan year? Is sex-magic part of your manifesting tool-kit?
