Halsey performing on Saturday Night Live: 2 Performances & One important Message on Motherhood.

Halsey just had a baby, released a new album, and has an important message about motherhood for us.

You can’t have it all—or at least, that’s what society tried to tell us in the past. But Halsey does not play along with that.

Just after publishing her new album, “If I can’t have love, I want power,” she took the stage at “Saturday Night Live.” But before that, she joked on Twitter that she might miss the performance because it’s more fun to hang out with her baby.

Who could blame her for that?

But Halsey showed up with two stunning performances showing us that one does not exclude the other. And this is the message of Halsey’s new album that goes out to mothers around the world.

“Me as a sexual being and my body as a vessel and gift to my child are two concepts that can co-exist peacefully and powerfully.” ~ Halsey

Yes, yes, and yes to that.

This is a concept album about the joys and horrors of pregnancy. Halsey wants to spark a conversation about motherhood that celebrates pregnant and postpartum bodies, which we should admire while eradicating the social stigma around bodies and breastfeeding.

I can’t wait to listen to this album, especially after hearing that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (Nine Inch Nails) produced it.

And who doesn’t see the irony that the artist releasing an album about patriarchy and institutionalized misogyny was announced by a person known for a TV show that I never watch or can “keep up with.”

Let’s not get distracted by media coverage on Kim Kardashian’s attempt to host Saturday Night Live and focus on Halsey’s performances.
