Empty Guarantees

Photo by Paula Schmidt on Pexels.

You can’t guarantee
That I’ll wake up tomorrow
Or that I’ll know the
Sweet bliss of the
Sun on my skin

You can’t guarantee
That I’ll hear the call
When it sings
My name
Calling me
Into the deepness
Of things

You can’t guarantee
That I’ll know
Who I am
When the question
Is essential
To answer

You can’t guarantee
That I’ll be awake
To see
Myself become
Alive again

You can’t guarantee
That I’ll know
The taste of
Love
Or the color
Of passion
When the world sweeps
Me away
In routine
And
Complacency

You can’t guarantee
I won’t forget
The very things
I came here for
That I won’t
Become distracted
By the production
Of this giant
Show

You can’t guarantee
That I’ll know you
When I see you again

I might forget
Maybe I already have

I guarantee this –
I already am
