5 Questions to Kick Conditioning—& Move into Creation.

I am consistently fascinated with the ideas of self-concept and the stories we tell ourselves.

I love unearthing and helping others discover the beliefs we hold about who we are, what we’re capable of, and what kind of world we live in. These are the storylines that script our lives.

Our minds are literally filtering our experience of reality based on these storylines, using our beliefs to get rid of anything that isn’t relevant to our worldview, distort other aspects to fit in with what we think, and make sweeping generalisations.

But where did these beliefs come from? Do you remember when you took them on?

Was it a conscious choice to select the stories that are shaping our experience of life? Did we purposefully create the image of ourselves that we live in?

For many of us, it’s a big nope—because we are living from our conditioning and haven’t thought about it a whole lot. And there’s zero judgement in that.

Our subconscious mind is 95 percent of the mind; that means only 5 percent is above the surface, easily within our grasp. So every day as we repeat the same patterns of thinking, we keep feeling the same feelings and recreating our experience based on the program of the past that has seeped into our subconscious. We’re on autopilot. And so even if it’s not ideal, it feels familiar and the thoughts of trying something new could really scare us and feel unsafe.

This means that quite often, old fears and limits from years ago are consistently being recycled. We fall into familiar emotions, we hold onto beliefs that aren’t particularly serving us, and we get stuck in this restricted idea of who we are. This runs deep, with many people floating through life half-asleep, as they tick the boxes they believe they should be ticking and assume they are as limited, stuck, and powerless as they’ve been feeling for a long time.

Of course, we don’t have to stay like this. And I get a sense that because you’re still reading this, you know that that’s not what you’re here for.

Nah, there’s a whole lot more in this life for you, for all of us. We can break through the limits of conditioning and old programming and upgrade into becoming who we truly are. We can consciously create our lives so that they are powerful expressions of our most authentic selves. We can shake off the emotions that have been leaving us exhausted and become energised with a newfound aliveness.

It begins with awareness and expands with exploration. Start noticing what you’re telling yourself about your life. Wake up to the reality that’s being created before you and get acquainted with how you’re shaping it. What are you telling yourself and is it working for you? Is it based in truth and conscious choice or someone else’s story?

Then connect with your compassionate curiosity and consider:

1. What would it look like to fully embrace your role as the creator of your life?

2. What would you change? What would you let go of? What would you embody?

3. What would you no longer tolerate from yourself or others?

4. What would you go for if you didn’t care what anybody else might think?

5. If you knew that you could rewrite all of the beliefs and ways of thinking you currently have, what would you choose to believe instead?

Take time with this and allow yourself to expand your mind. Entertain new ideas and possibilities. Break through the limits of old programs you took on subconsciously. Realise the immense capacity and power within to create.

When we decide we’re going to wake up from the old patterns and lay down the new and true ones, we start owning our authentic lives. We step into a story that’s ours. The life that we’ve chosen. The life that has arisen from inspiration, not indoctrination.

Your life can be how you want it to be. You can transform how you see yourself and the world. You can rewrite your whole story.

It’s all there for the taking—when you choose to claim it.
