“So let me explain why I like to pay taxes for schools, even though I don’t personally have a kid in school…” ~ John Green

“So, in other words, taxes paid for her education anyway. To those saying “she worked for it…” you are saying that employed people should have their education paid for. Just so you know.” ~ reddit comment

Whether we think we support #cancelstudentdebt or not, fact is public college education, and private college education costs have gone through the roof. When I attended Boston University, way back in the day (you know, the 90s) it was the more expensive than Harvard, among the most expensive in the US. Luckily, as a poor nerd, I got help. Now, what my fellow students paid there wouldn’t pay for half a year at most universities in this country.

And yet we argue about raising the minimum wage, still. This country is out of whack. I say that as a liberal patriot. Let’s make some changes that are good for all of us—education should be #1, from K through college graduation.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” ~ Nelson Mandela.

“Public education does not exist for the benefit of students or the benefit of their parents. It exists for the benefit of the social order.

We have discovered as a species that it is useful to have an educated population. You do not need to be a student or have a child who is a student to benefit from public education. Every second of every day of your life, you benefit from public education.

So let me explain why I like to pay taxes for schools, even though I don’t personally have a kid in school: It’s because I don’t like living in a country with a bunch of stupid people.” ~ John Green
