This morning via “MUSA,” an elegant new eco-minded retreat in Mexico, we attended a turtle sanctuary “hatching.”

Now I’ve been at ones in the past that were tourist traps; bad for the baby turtles, just a way for a seaside establishment to make money off of folks wanting to take photos and videos, like these, of cute baby turtles. Unfortunately the baby turtles are not sometimes not well-treated, they struggle to get to the sea through impenetrably sloping buckets for hours in the heat, without water or sustenance, buried deep while alive on top of one another.

This one was different. But without enough funding or organization. Balthazar and Freddy, hermanos, translated through Michelle (with assists from Larissa) ^ told us that without #MUSA they could not afford gas to get tourists to the sanctuary.

They can only patrol one long section of the beach, rescuing baby turtles from prey (dogs, humans) from 1 – 3 am. They could do more with support. Their vehicles have cracked tires (we paid for at least two new tires today).

If you are inspired to give, I have interviewed them & others independent of them ab their intention & integrity & folks say they just need help. The pandemic crushed their volunteer support.
