10 Buddhist Quotes To Bring Us to the Present As We Ring In the New Year.

A new year is upon us once again. It’s a time for new beginnings and self-reflection.

But, to be honest with you, isn’t today also a time for new beginnings and self-reflection?  I will treat the new year in the same way as I treat each new day.  This keeps me in the moment and mindful of my blessings.

I do love the new year’s concept though. I am sure I will work on some fresh goals. I always make a list of things I want to accomplish in any given year. It’s a fun list – it could be something as simple as finding the perfect black boots, or as complex as publishing 10 articles every month for a year. It’s called XX for year XX. So, last year’s list was called 22 for 22. This is a concept I heard about from Gretchen Rubin.

I’ll share 5 things from that list:

  1. Read Hormone Balance by Aviva Romm – I did not read it
  2. Learn new Canon DSLR camera inside and out – I learned about 25% of my camera
  3. Publish images and digital art for free and for sale – I did indeed publish on Unsplash
  4. Read one kindle book and one paper book per month – Most months I read part of a Kindle and a physical book
  5. Create a new nutrition and fitness plan (for myself) based on age/hormones/longevity – I did create my new nutrition plan!

Now I’ll share some of my favorite Buddhist quotes to ring in the brand-new year. These quotes bring me to the present and help me to be more mindful. Sometimes I will take a quote and reflect on it through journaling.

Read, ponder, and enjoy:

  1. “The present moment is filled with joy and happiness. If you are attentive, you will see it.” – Thich Nhat Hanh
  2. “You will not be punished for your anger, you will be punished by your anger.” – Buddha
  3. “The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts.” – Marcus Aurelius
  4. “The only way to find true happiness is to risk being completely cut open.” – Chuck Palahniuk
  5. “Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.” – Buddha
  6. “Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.” – Dalai Lama
  7. “Happiness is not something you postpone for the future; it is something you design for the present.” – Jim Rohn
  8. “The only way to find true happiness is to risk being completely cut open.” – Chuck Palahniuk
  9. “The way is not in the sky. The way is in the heart.” – Buddha
  10. “Your work is to discover your work and then with all your heart to give yourself to it.” – Buddha
Happy 2023 and every single day.
