An Open Letter to Mother Earth.

Dear Mother Earth,

It’s yet another April 22, and everyone is celebrating Earth Day. But I decided to take a break and pen down a heartfelt gratitude letter for you.

As I grew up and traveled across the world, I’ve had the privilege to witness the beauty and wonder of your creation. From the azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea to the rugged mountains of Ladakh, from the vast stretches of Savannah in Kenya to the lush rainforests of Bangladesh—I have always been in awe of what you have to offer. I will be honest and accept that I’m also keenly aware of the threats that loom over your precious ecosystems.

It fills me with sadness to know that the coral reefs are drying out, glaciers are melting steadily, animals like gorillas and rhinos are getting extinct, and we are losing our green belts faster than ever. My heart feels heavy every time I see heaps of plastic bags lying on the corner of the road and stray animals feeding on them. It reminds me of a line that a friend once said, “It’s only a straw, said one million people!” But I believe that it’s time for us to come together and make a commitment to protecting the environment, promoting sustainability, and ensuring a healthier and more resilient future for all life on Earth.

I know that that onus is on us—and we are the ones who’ll have to take action now. Whether planting trees, cleaning up beaches, or educating communities about the importance of preserving biodiversity, we have to work toward making a positive impact in whatever way we can.

I understand that every small step counts—and I shall do my part in saving you, Mother Earth. I’ll make sure to carry my cutleries while traveling and reduce single-use plastic waste, keep a check on my carbon footprints, stay at eco-friendly properties, and do my bit. I’ll sign up and volunteer for conservation programs, offering my time, energy, and skills to restore habitats for the well-being of the planet.

Mother Earth, you have given us so much—clean air to breathe, fertile soil to cultivate our food, and a bunch of resources to sustain life. It’s our responsibility to safeguard your beauty and diversity for future generations.

On this Earth Day, I would request my friends and family, colleagues, acquaintances, and everyone else to come together and work as a volunteer to conserve and protect the planet so that we can create a brighter, greener, and more sustainable future for all.

With love and gratitude,

A conscious traveler.
