The only Self-Care Practice that really Matters.

I sat on the massage table today expecting nothing but comfort and healing.

At the end of the day massage therapy counts as self-care, and self-care is pretty crucial.

When we take the time to take care of our well-being, we reduce daily stress and get in touch with our inner selves.

I thought I was doing just that; I thought I was enjoying myself. Massage therapy is one of the best “self-care” practices out there, right? Well, today, on that table, that session was a heavy burden.

I wasn’t indulging in self-care. If anything, I was drowning in worry.

The physical tension was being released, but the mental one was slowly building up. I thought about my work, my family, my goals, my problems, my blessings…I thought about, well, everything. I opened my eyes and paused for a moment. That’s when it hit me.

What’s the point of caring for ourselves physically when mentally we’re not okay?

What’s the point of getting massages, writing a journal, working out, eating healthy, walking, or doing anything really if we can’t achieve peace of mind?

We must undoubtedly care for ourselves physically and emotionally. We must work out and walk and eat healthy because it’s good for our bodies. We must write a journal because it feels good. But above all, we must also learn how and when to stop worrying. That’s what really matters. When we care for ourselves from the inside out, we make space for genuine healing and satisfaction.

We should always check in with ourselves and see if there’s something weighing us down. This is real self-care. This is real healing. Maybe we can’t fix all of our problems, but we can choose when to address them.

Don’t let your thoughts get in your way. It’s important to realize that worrying doesn’t solve problems; it only magnifies them.

So give yourself grace today and breathe.
